Looking for a job and landing a job interview are usually the easy parts of your employability journey. The job interview is usually what is nerve racking that’s why it’s important to properly prepare yourself so that you can put your best foot forward in this journey.

Here are some tips and tricks for a successful job interview. 

  1. Research the Company before the interview

It’s important to research the company you’re interviewing with because many hiring managers will ask you what you know about their company. This will not only show initiative but it’ll also show how serious you are about the position.

Tip: During the interview, try asking thoughtful questions about the company based on what you found online. 

  1. Plan what you’re going to wear

First impressions are always important, if you’re not sure about what to wear ask beforehand about the dress code. It’s important to have at least 2 or 3 professional outfits ready for potential job interviews.

  1. Practice interview techniques and responses

Expect questions about past work experiences, stressful moments, among others. Try practicing standard interview questions, this will help you feel more confident and comfortable when answering questions during the real job interview.

Tip: Bring copies of your resume to the interview so that you can refer to it and to give to the interviewer.

  1. Arrive early, but not too early

Try to arrive 5-10 minutes early, this will show your potential employers that you like to be on time, they value punctuality.

  1. Be aware of your body language

Remember to exude confidence, hold your head high, stand straight and tall, smile, make eye-contact and introduce yourself with a firm handshake.

  1. Always be honest

Be open and confident. Answer with facts as best you can. References and letters of recommendation are of big help in this part of the process.
